Bhubaneswar: After huge influx of migrants from other States and with Coronavirus crisis still far from over, Odisha government has now planned to create around 20 crore of workdays as employment opportunities for returnees under the MGNREGA scheme.
In a daily bulletin, the State government on Sunday announced that under the MGNREGA scheme, it will provide 20 crore workdays for migrants in excavating around 1.3 lakh ponds across the State.
Furthermore, it has planned to complete a massive tree plantation drive by the end of August this year under which around 15 crore saplings will be planted. As per reports, to strengthen the afforestation layout, the government has successfully planted around 12 crore saplings. Moreover, the government has also finalised to set up around 1000 ‘Vana Surakhya Samitis’ for strengthening mass afforestation initiative.
As per government data, so far over 5.43 lakh migrants have returned to Odisha amid the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 4,968 people returned to the state on Sunday.
As many as 215 Odias stranded in UAE due to the coronavirus pandemic reached Bhubaneswar in a chartered flight on Sunday. The Air Arabia flight carrying 215 migrants took off from Sharjah International Airport and landed at Biju Patnaik International Airport here.
