Bhubaneswar: The stage is all set for the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine in India on January 16. The Odisha government is also fully prepared to start the vaccination drive in 160 session sites across the State.
Dr Jayant Panda, Head of Medicine Department (SCB Medical College and Hospital) on Monday answered the most common questions about the Covid-19 shot through the official press conference of the State government.
Q1- Covid Vaccine has been prepared in short time. Is it safe and effective?
A- Whenever a vaccine is manufactured, permission/ approval is granted by DGCI and other agencies. Hence, people should not worry at all as the vaccine has gone through various stages of trials.
Q2- Is the vaccine mandatory for all?
A-It is not mandatory but optional. However, if we want to keep ourselves safe & keep the coronavirus at bay, we should take the vaccine.
Q3-Will the COVID-19 vaccination be carried out in mass scale?
A-The vaccination drive will be carried out in a phased manner across the country and Odisha as well. Covid warriors, health workers, elderly persons and persons with comorbidities will be administered vaccine in first phase.
Q4- Only health workers or their family members will also be vaccinated?
A- As per the guidelines, only health workers will be vaccinated in the first phase. Later, decision will be taken on vaccinating their family members as well.
Q5- Which vaccine will be given in India or Odisha?
A- As per our climatic conditions, the appropriate and best vaccine available across the world will be used in India. The first dose of same vaccine will be administered after 28 days again.
Q6. Is it necessary for COVID recovered patients to take vaccine?
A- It is difficult to understand how much antibodies have been formed in the recovered patients. Hence, they should also take the COVID-19 vaccine as well.
Q7 Can a person presently having COVID-19 (confirmed or suspected) infection be vaccinated?
A- It is not advisable to administer vaccine in case of active cases. Because, there is risk that the vaccinator gets exposed to the virus. So, it is advisable to administer positive patients after 14 days of their recovery.
Q8- Will the vaccine introduced in India be as effective as the ones introduced in other countries?
A- Yes. The COVID 19 vaccine introduced in India will be as effective as any vaccine developed by other countries.
Q9 Do we have adequate infrastructure in India and Odisha to store the vaccine?
A-As far as preservation of vaccine is concerned, India has the requisite infrastructure to keep the vaccine safe in cold chain and other set ups
Q10- Can vaccine be administered without registration?
A-One has to register with COwin App and only after registration an individual will get SMS regarding whether they are eligible for vaccination or not on their registered mobile phone number.
Q11- What documents valid for registration?
A- Aadhar, PAN card, bank passbook, MLA, MP identity cards, MNREGA ID cards and other documents needs to be brought to the session site.
Q12 What precautions should be taken while visiting vaccination centre?
A- Wearing of mask and other COVID-19 protocols needs to be followed strictly at the vaccination site.
