Malkangiri: A family of Totaguda village, a part of Swabhiman Anchal in the district had to leave their home after the Maoists threatened them to go away from the village suspecting them to be police informers.
According to reports, the Maoists suspected Manu Galeri as a police informer and asked him to leave the village along with his wife and daughter in a praja court held on Monday. The extremists alleged that Manu is passing information to the police about their movement in the area. They also hold him responsible for the encounter by the security personnel in the area on November 26.
The red rebels threatened him of death punishment against disobeying their decision. Following the development Manu and his family took refuge in one of their relative’s house at Kaimati on Monday night. But they feel unsecured their too and took shelter at a rest shed in Chitrakonda on the next morning.
“The Maoists asked me about my role as a police informer. When I refuted their allegation, they didn’t pay any heed and threatened me of dire consequences if I don’t leave the village immediately. I had no other option but to leave my home,” said a crestfallen Manu.
A day earlier, the Maoists had given a day-long bandh call in Malkangiri protesting the recent police encounter at Alampakka area under ‘Swabhiman Anchal’ in the district in which two red ultras were killed.
However, the impact of the bandh had reportedly been felt only in some places and there is little or no impact on the day-to- day life in the district.
On December 13, two Maoists including a woman cadre had been gunned down during an exchange of fire with the Special Operations Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) personnel at ‘Swabhiman Anchal’.
