Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Saturday deputed senior bureaucrats to oversee flood management in several vulnerable districts of the State.
Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy informed that senior officers- Hemant Sharma, DK Singh, Vishal Dev, BP Sethi, VV Yadav, Satyabrata Sahu and RDC- have been asked to monitor the flood situation in Kendrapara, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur and Puri districts.
Flood threats looms large over all these districts following the release of excess water from Hirakud dam due to incessant rainfall in the upper catchment areas. The senior officers will monitor the entire relief and rescue operations in these districts.
The inflow of water into Hirakud dam is constantly rising. As per the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), the water level of the reservoir stands at 626.27 ft and it is rising by 8cm per hour.
SRC Pradeep Jena informed that Collectors have already been asked to complete damage assessment of houses at the earliest as per SDRF guidelines/ relief code and extend assistance to eligible cases as per norms. This applies to all districts which witnessed heavy rainfall and flood.
