Bhubaneswar: With Raja festival round the corner, Odisha government on Thursday advised people to exercise caution and avoid gathering during celebrations in view of the current COVID-19 situation in the State.
Odisha government spokesperson, Subroto Bagchi today informed that the government has relaxed shutdown on June 12 with night curfew beginning at 10PM instead of 7PM. However, people should take adequate precautions while indulging in festivities as COVID-19 cases are rising exponentially in the country and State, he said.
“We will get scope to celebrate Raja festival in years to come. But people need to follow the advisory issued by the State government and wear masks and not to crowd markets,” said Bagchi.
Bagchi further informed that on an average, India has seen a rise of COVID-19 positive cases at a rate of 10,000 per day in the past one week. Similar is the case in Odisha where the COVID-19 cases have seen a massive jump in the last 17 days.
“From May 26 till June 11, COVID-19 positive cases in the State have doubled. However, the good news is that COVID-19 recoveries have trebled in the State,” Bagchi added.
As per the data of the Health and Family Welfare department, COVID-19 positive cases stood at 1,517 on May 26 and the number rose exponentially and doubled to 3,386 by June 11.
Odisha had reported a cumulative 777 COVID-19 recoveries on May 26 and the number has tripled and reached 2354 by June 11, 2020.
