Phulbani: Ranjit Kumar Muni, the inspector-in-charge of Bramhanigaon Police station in Kandhamal district on Sunday sustained multiple injuries after he was attacked by a group of villagers near Meramaha chhak in Baliguda.

As per preliminary reports, the incident occurred when Ranjit along with a police team was returning after conducting a raid on a gambling den. Sources said the mob also resorted to black firing.

Ranjit has sustained injuries on his face and is now undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Following the incident, a police team led by SDPO conducted a flag-march at Meramaha village. Police have detained six villagers and further investigation is on.
