Bhubaneswar: With Odisha boiling over growing atrocities against women and girl children, the State Commission for Women (SCW) is making an overall assessment of the headway in investigations related to alleged gang rape incidents in Puri and Bhubaneswar and other recent cases. Commission chairperson Minati Behera today stressed on exemplary punishment for rapists and speedy trial of rape cases in fast-track court.
A day after visiting Kumbharpara PS in Puri to discuss the developments in the alleged gang rape of a minor girl, SCW Chairperson today met IIC of Khandagiri Police Station in Bhubaneswar where she was briefed about investigation reports in the Khandagiri gang rape case reported on December 4. Behera also visited the spot and met family members of the survivor at their residence.
"Legal proceedings will go on, but I request every woman to resort to exemplary punishment when and wherever they come across any such incident. Any person will fear before attempting such heinous act with such strict and immediate actions," said Minati.
Minati further informed that the commission has recommended grant of compensation for the victims.
Meanwhile, Khandagiri police has conducted medical examination of accused Jagannath Mohanty after arresting him. A scientific team has also been engaged for on-spot investigation and collect evidence.
The victim, on the other hand, has shown signs of improvement. She is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital while her condition is stated to be stable.
