Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offence Wing of Odisha Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested a builder on charges of duping several people to the tune of over Rs 4 crore on the pretext of providing duplex houses to them.
Amiya Kumar Patnaik, a resident of Khandagiri area in the Capital city in his FIR lodged with the EOW mentioned that one Maheswar Sahu, owner of the building firm MX Infra Ltd, had taken a total of Rs 45 lakh from him on various instalments betweem 2016 and 2018 to give him a duplex house at Uttermundamuhana in Jatni.
The builder had assured Patnaik to hand over the duplex by February 14, 2017, but he reportedly did not even start any construction work by the said date.
The builder had also assured that the land for the project was free of litigation, but the complainant later discovered the said plot allotted to him was sold to the builder by one Premananda Mohapatra, MD of Golden View Infrastructure even though he had mortaged it to the Indian Overseas Bank.
The complainant Amiya Kumar Patnaik also mentioned in his FIR that the builder has duped a total of 12 intending buyers including him to provide duplex in the same project and in doing so, he has collected a total of Rs 4,00,17,000 from them.
“Maheswar Sahu had the dishonest intention right from the beginning to deceive intending buyers like us. He, in conspiracy with Premananda Mohapatra, deliberately and fradulently executed the sale deeds in our favour and in furtherance of such conspiracy they have committed the offence of forgery and cheating,” the complainant stated in his FIR to the CB.
