Balasore: Big cities in India are choking with an alarming rise in the levels of harmful pollutants in the air. Keeping in mind the effects of vehicular emission, considered one of the major contributors of the deteriorating air quality, a Plus-III science student in Balasore district has developed a unique bicycle which runs on battery and is completely pollution-free.
Without any training in this field, Jibanjyoti Nayak of Sajanpur Kasaba village under Soro block here has invented this unique bicycle which has many key features of a motorcycle.
The cycle has facilities like self-start, accelerator, horn, light and also a charging point for mobile phones. This apart, the cycle also features the conventional paddle which can be used by the rider in case of emergencies or when the battery is down. The cycle has a lithium-ion battery which on a charge of three hours can travel up to 35-40 km.
According to Jibanjyoti, he has spent around Rs 13,500 to create this bicycle. " I have been trying to make this cycle since I was in Plus-II," said Jibanjyoti who now regularly rides this cycle to go to his college.
He has named it L Bench and also put on stickers to give it a funky look.
"He was always keen on making some unique invention. Even if we would stop him, he would not listen to us. But when he came up with the idea of this cycle, we supported him so that he could fulfil his dream." said Jibanjyoti's mother Jyotirama Nayak.
Jibanjyoti's family and villagers are very proud of his unique feat.
Seeing the effects of air pollution jeopardizing human lives, he also expressed his desire to work to make the environment pollution-free.
