Bhubaneswar: The 15th session of the Odisha Assembly was adjourned sine die two days ahead of the schedule on Friday. Though the session was supposed to end on February 12, Speaker P K Amat called off the session after the assembly passed the interim budget which was earlier tabled on Thursday.
The budget session of Odisha Assembly began with the ceremonial Governor’s speech on February 4. Apart from the passage of the vote-on-account of Rs 56,926 crore, the short session of the Assembly could not take up any debate on key issues.
Moreover, the House witnessed pandemonium with opposition parties raking up the issue of farmers, law and order, chit fund scam while the ruling BJD tried to corner the Central government over the issue of unemployment.
Following the ruckus, the Speaker convened an all-party meeting to restore normalcy in the House. Leader of the Opposition, Narasingha Mishra demanded for a hike in the health insurance for the journalists to Rs 5 lakh from existing Rs 2 lakh.
