Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Thursday approved three investments proposals worth Rs 17,833 crore. The projects assure 6,549 new employment opportunities for people in the State.
The projects were cleared by the High-level Clearance Authority (HLCA) meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Industries Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra informed that the HLCA approved the proposal of Hindalco Industries Ltd to set up a 2 million ton per annum (MTPA) alumina refinery at Kansariguda in Rayagada with a total investment of Rs 8,000 crore. The company will provide job opportunities to 4,250 people.
The HLCA also approved NTPC Ltd’s expansion of thermal power plant capacity of Talcher power station with an additional investment of Rs 7,698.46 crore.
Senior officials informed that the proposal of Rungta Mines Limited (RML) to expand its integrated steel plant at Sundergarh from 0.27 MTPA to 0.9 MTPA capacity was also approved today. The project will be executed at an estimated cost of Rs 2,135 crore and it will create additional job opportunities for 2,289 people.
“Odisha has been successful in creating good eco-system for industries for which the State surpassed Maharashtra in terms of attracting investments including foreign direct investments in the past,” said Mishra.
Mishra further informed that a lot of companies are keen to set up their units in Odisha and adequate support is being provided by the State government.
