Odisha: 8-YO Girl Critical After 2 Miscreants Slit Her Throat In Berhampur

Berhampur: Eight-year-old girl is battling for her life after two miscreants attempted to kill her at Sorala village under Golanthara police limits in Ganjam district on Thursday.

As per reports, the girl was rescued lying in a pool of blood inside a closed room.

It is alleged that two persons attempted to kill her by slitting her throat. The exact reason behind the murder attempt is still unclear.

"The girl was playing near the house. We don't know what happened with her. After getting news, we rushed to the spot and rescued her in critical condition," said a relative of the injured girl.

The family members further said that a group of villagers managed to nab one person from the spot.

"I am not aware why the two youths attacked my daughter. I had no enmity with anyone," said victim's father.

Following the incident, girl was immediately shifted to MKCG hospital and as her condition was  critical she was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Police have detained two accused and further investigation in connection with the incident is underway.

Berhampur SP said, "The accused attacked the minor girl in the morning. After preliminary treatment, the injured girl has been shifted to Cuttack. We have detained both the accused. As our priority is to ensure proper treatment of the victim. We are investigating the matter and only after medical examination we can say whether there was any sexual assault or not."
