Jharsuguda: As many as four members of a family suffered serious burn injuries after their house caught fire at Hari Om Vihar area under Brajarajnagar Block in the district on Sunday night.
The injured have been identified as Baljit Kaur, Manjit Kaur, Rajinder Singh and Ismit Kaur. They have been admitted to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH), Rourkela in a critical condition.
According to reports, their house caught fire while they were asleep at night in which a woman, her son, married daughter and granddaughter sustained serious burn injuries.
“We heard the family members shouting for help late last night and rushed to rescue them. They were rescued and immediately sent to the hospital,” said Ranjan Singh, a local resident.
On being informed, Brajarajnagar police reached the spot and controlled the fire along with local people. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the fire.
“Exact reason for the mishap couldn’t be ascertained at this stage. We are verifying different points and further investigation is underway. We can’t rush into any conclusion as of now,” said Jharsuguda Superintendents of police (SP) Bikash Das.
In another similar incident, four thatched houses of as many families were reduced to ashes in a fire mishap at Sanaanla village under Krushnaprasad gram panchayat in Puri district on late Sunday night.
According to reports, property worth lakhs of rupees including a bike, furniture and paddy were also gutted in the mishap. In a joint effort, Maluda fire services team and locals doused the fire. However, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
