Balasore: An 80-year-old woman was allegedly dragged out of her house and later thrashed by her son and daughter-in-law at Tundapada village under Soro Muncipality in Balasore district.

The matter came to light after some locals spotted the abandoned woman under a tree and rescued her. She was later taken to Soro Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.

Narrating her ordeal, the woman alleged that her younger son and daughter-in-law beat up and forced her to starve for days. Later they also allegedly took away the money which she had drawn as old-age pension.

“My younger son and daughter-in-law do not provide me food, torture me often and also verbally abuse me. Now I am forced to survive by begging,” the elderly woman said.

Informing about her health condition, Brajasundar Swain, a doctor of Soro CHC said, “She was beaten up by her son and daughter-in-law following a family dispute. She had several injury marks and there were no one with her when she was brought to the CHC.”

Earlier this month, an elderly woman was found abandoned at an Aahar Centre in Chandbali area of Bhadrak district. The woman, Kuntala Pothala, was later rescued and taken back to home after a report in connection with the incident was telecast on OTV.
