Bhubaneswar: People in Odisha including the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar got the much needed respite from the scorching hot and humid conditions after heavy to moderate rains pounded several parts of the State on Saturday evening.
As per reports, the driver of a tractor was killed at Balipadar in Ganjam district when he came under a falling tree. Another man travelling on the tractor has been injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, vehicular traffic in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar was affected due to the sudden thunderstorm which brought down the heat considerably.
There were reports of some damage to public property caused due to the strong and gusty winds that lashed the millennium city in the evening.
“Already the maximum temperature in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and other parts of the State had breached the 40-degree Celsius mark in the past few days. The heat had almost become unbearable and today’s thunderstorm will certainly provide some respite from such conditions in the next few days,” said Kishore Das, a resident of Cuttack.
Earlier, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar had issued a thunderstorm and lightning warning for Khordha district (including Bhubaneswar city), Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri and Ganjam districts till 7: 30 pm today.
