Bhubaneswar: Fed up with alleged torture by her husband, a non-resident Odia woman staying in Pune of Maharashtra reportedly committed suicide in front of her minor children at her residence.

Rasmita Das (26), hailing from Khuntuni area in Cuttack district, who was living in an apartment in Bhagat Singh Chowk area of Pune, hanged herself in front of her 6-year-old daughter and 10-month-old son.

A note suspected to be written by Rasmita in which she blamed her husband Rajendra Das for taking the extreme step was recovered from the spot.

After the brother of the deceased lodged a complaint at Sanghvi police station in this regard, police began a probe into the matter.

According to sources, Rajendra who works as a manager in a private firm in Pune married Rasmita in 2012 and has been living with her along with their son and daughter in the city for past several years.

“My son-in-law had been torturing my daughter for the past eight months. She might have committed suicide due to mental pressure following the harrasment. My son-in-law has not told us anything about her death. However, the police have cited that the post-mortem report of my daughter has confirmed that she committed suicide,” the father of the deceased said.
