Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Vikash Parishad, a social organization, will file a PIL in Orissa High Court seeking CBI investigation into a number of cases, including ‘Pihu’ missing case, Jagatsinghpur engineer ‘murder’ case, Kendrapara RTI activist’s death, which Odisha police ‘failed’ to crack.
At a press meet with 12 victim’s families, the Parishad informed that it would soon approach the High Court for an investigation into these cases by a central agency.
The Vikash Parishad also submitted a memorandum to the President, Prime Minister, Chief Minister and Chief Justice of Orissa High Court in this connection.
The 12 victims’ families include Pihu’s kin, Jagatsinghpur engineer Amrut Das’ family and relatives of RTI activist Ranjan Das.
A two-year-old girl Pihu had gone missing for the last seven months in Madhusudanpur under Binjharpur police limits in Jajpur district. Her parents have been alleging police laxity in tracing their kid.
Young engineer Amrut Das of Kujanga area in Jagatsinghpur was found dead in July 2019. Police investigation revealed that the death was due to a road accident while his family members have been insisting on as a case of murder. His mother and brother ran from pillar to post seeking justice, but to no avail. They had also attempted self-immolation in front of the State Assembly building recently seeking justice.
Similarly, RTI activist Ranjan Das was found dead near Beruhan village under Marshaghai police station under mysterious circumstances in February 2020. His family members, who termed it as a case of murder, had accused police of trying to project it as an accident. Fellow activists later staged a demonstration in Bhubaneswar and attempted to gherao CM’s residence seeking CBI inquiry into the death.
