Bhubaneswar: Even as the curve of daily Covid infections is on a downward trend in Odisha, the number of fatalities due to the lethal coronavirus has refused to decline. At least 16 patients undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the State succumbed in the last 24 hours taking the death toll to 1543.
Five patients succumbed to Covid-19 in Sundargarh district while three died in Bargarh and two in Jharsuguda. Khordha (Bhubaneswar), Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri and Sambalpur districts recorded one death each, as per the data of State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.
What looks concerning is despite the fact that single-day cases have stood below 1000 in the past two days, 15 positive patients died on Saturday and 17 more succumbed to the virus on Sunday, indicating that there has been no fall in the mortality rate.
As many as 749 persons tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours pushing the total Covid-19 tally in Odisha to 309408. Of the fresh cases, 437 were detected from different quarantine centres, while the remaining 312 are local transmission cases, as per Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Department.
During the period, Khordha district recorded the highest 88 Covid cases, followed by Mayurbhanj (78) and Sundargarh (55). Boudh district reported nil cases.
The H&FW department has shared the details of the 16 Covid-19 patients who succumbed while undergoing treatment at various hospitals:
- A 65-year-old male of Bargarh district who was also suffering from Hypertension.
- A 24-year-old female of Bargarh district.
- A 78-year-old male of Bargarh district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
- A 47-year-old female of Bhubaneswar who was also suffering from CA Breast.
- A 55-year-old male of Deogarh district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
- A 56-year-old female of Jharsuguda district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
- An 80-year-old male of Jharsuguda district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
- A 60-year-old female of Mayurbhanj district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
- A 49-year-old male of Nayagarh district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
- A 58-year-old female of Puri district.
- A 78-year-old male of Sambalpur district.
- A 72-year-old female of Sundargarh district who was also suffering from Hypertension &
- A 73-year-old male of Sundargarh district who was also suffering from COPD.
- A 70-year-old male of Sundargarh district.
- A 64-year-old female of Sundargarh district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
- A 58-year-old male of Sundargarh district.
As of now, at least 53 patients infected with COVID-19 have died due to pre-existing ailments, informed the H&FW Department.
A total of 35051 samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tests to 5294726 in Odisha. The number of active cases in the state has come down to 9950 with 297862 persons having recovered from the virus so far.
After detection of 30548 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, India’s total cases surged to 8845127 while 435 deaths during the period pushed the toll to 130070, as per morning data of the Union Health Ministry.
Total active cases in India stand at 465478 while 8249579 recuperated from the disease so far pushing the national recovery rate to 93.27 percent. The COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.47 percent.
