New plan to come up soon to check jumbo death

Concerned over the rising death toll of elephants in the state due to electrocution and train mishaps, the government has decided to expedite the execution of the policy which would strengthen the electric infrastructure in the communication route of the jumbos.

Moreover, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has ordered energy and forest departments to initiate the plan in the sensitive areas on priority basis, said sources.

The meeting also featured the train’s speed limit near elephant corridors, appropriate coordination with the rail department and laying information board.

The state government’s proposal before Centre for constituting Special Tiger Protection Force in Satkosia sanctuary was also focused in the meeting. Discussion was also held on proper rehabilitation for the people residing in the core areas of Similipal and Satkosia sanctuaries.
