Puri: A mould of neelachakra (blue wheel), the metal wheel at the top of Lord Jagannath temple, on shoe sole has sparked outrage among the servitors and devotees of the reigning deity worshipped by millions across the globe.

After discovering the replica of neelachakra on shoes, activists of Sri Jagannath Sanskruti Suraksha Bahini and servitors of the famous temple staged demonstration in front of Simha Dwara (Lion’s Gate) to express their anguish as it has hurt the religious sentiments of the devotees.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the Chennai-based company for manufacturing such shoes.

On the other hand, the temple administration has also expressed its displeasure over the turn out of events. A temple administration official said, the concerned shoe manufacturing company will be communicated about this and will be told to stop manufacturing this particular variety of shoe.

Besides, the state government would be asked to take steps so that no such incident meddling with the sentiments of devotees occurs in future, the official said.
