Bhubaneswar: The Special Investigation Team on Friday afternoon produced the 'minor' accused in the alleged rape and murder of five-year-old Nayagarh girl before the Juvenile Justice Board for hearing on a plea seeking his narco analysis test.
The narco test assumes considerable significance as the police need to ferret out several crucial evidence in the sensational case which has allegedly been concealed by the accused.
In a sensational twist to the minor girl abduction and murder case, the POCSO court hearing the case on Tuesday had termed that the accused a minor.
The court pronounced the judgement based on evidence provided by the accused’s lawyer who claimed before the court that he hadn’t attained the age of 18 when the crime was reported. The counsel also produced the accused's birth certificate and matriculation certificate.
While the court rejected the SIT’s petition for the conduct of narco-analysis test, it held that the plea would be reviewed at the Juvenile Justice Board.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the Juvenile Justice Board would conduct an enquiry as per the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, to determine the age of the accused. It would decide whether the accused will be tried in Juvenile Justice Court or Children’s Court.
