Nayagarh: A day after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Odisha Crime Branch filed a charge-sheet in the sensational rape and murder of a five-year-old girl at Jadupur in the district, the lawyer of the minor accused has pointed out several inconsistencies in the findings made by the Arun Bothra led probe team.
Advocate Chandra Bijayee Mishra, who is appearing for the accused said the charge-sheet ‘appeared to have been filed hastily and lacks consistency’.
“Bothra had narrated excerpts from Odia folk lore 'Budhi Asuruni' before the media. There are many differences between what Bothra said and the SIT findings in the charge sheet,” Mishra said.
Mishra alleged that the SIT had cobbled up a hastily prepared charge sheet in order to avoid CBI inquiry into the case which had been demanded by opposition political parties.
“The charge-sheet is said to be of 382 pages out of which we were given only 156 pages as per the provisions under Section 173 of CrPC. We have not analysed it thoroughly. Prima facie, there appears glaring discrepancies in the inquest and other medical reports," he alleged.
Giving further details, Mishra said the SIT has shown the minor as the only accused in the charge-sheet. Moreover, statement of three witnesses from Jadupur village had been recorded before a judicial magistrate in connection with the case, he said.
The minor accused, a college-goer, has been lodged at the Bal Sudhar Gruha in Angul. The SIT will produce the accused before the Children's court on February 19 seeking LVA (Lower Voice Analysis) test.
It may be recalled that the SIT had claimed that accused had strangulated the minor girl to death and raped the life-less body.
Semen sample of a person was found on the frock of the victim which was seized during the course of investigation.
