Kendrapara: At least 14 children and a teacher of a private school had a narrow escape after the school van in which they were travelling overturned into a canal near Laxminarayanpur in Rajnagar area of Kendrapara district today morning.
A major mishap was averted as the students and teacher belonging to St. Xavier Public School escaped with minor injuries.
According to reports, the incident occurred at around 11 am when the driver of the school van lost control over the vehicle following which it overturned in a roadside canal.
Soon after the mishap, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the 14 students and the teacher trapped inside the van.
The locals also detained the van driver alleging negligence on his part. Later on getting information, officials of the school reached the spot and pacified the mob following which they released the driver, sources said.
