Bhubaneswar: The authorities of Nandankanan Zoological Park have sought help from wildlife health experts from outside of Odisha for the treatment of two tiger cubs who have been taken ill in the zoo for the past few days.
According to sources, officials of the zoo have requested experts at Chennai Zoo and Indian Veterinary Research Institute to give their valuable suggestions in the treatment of tiger cubs Luv and Kusha.
At present both the cubs, aged just over a year, are undergoing treatment at the isolation ward of zoo hospital under the supervision of Centre for Wildlife Health, OUAT experts.
Sources from the Nandankanan said that the two cubs are consuming their normal food so it is hoped that they will recover soon.
Notably, Luv, one-year-old male tiger cub born to white tigress Sneha, was first spotted limping on his left hind limb on 26 January 2021. Similarly, Kusha, another male tiger cub also born to Sneha has been suffering from paralysis on both the hind limbs.
After remaining shut for nearly seven months, the Nandankanan reopened its gates for visitors in a restricted manner with all COVID-19 guidelines and social distancing norms in place from 4 October 2020.
