'Mysterious' Death Of Odisha School Girl Triggers Protest

Keonjhar: Tension prevailed outside the Masinajodi educational complex school under Pandapada police limits of the district today following the death of a girl student under mysterious circumstances. The deceased Padmabati Juan was a student of Class VIII.

Shocked over her sudden demise, Padmabati's family members staged a dharna by placing her body in front of the residential school. They have also demanded the school authorities to provide her medical reports.

According to the school officials, the student was admitted to Keonjhar district headquarters hospital after she complained of vomiting, diarrhoea and severe stomach ache and later shifted to Cuttack SCB as her condition worsened. She succumbed while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

On the other hand, the girl's guardians said that the school officials left her body on the verandah of their house and even did not hand over her medical reports. Alleging delay in treatment, the family later lodged a complaint with the local police.

Inspector Suresh Chandra Patra said, "An unnatural death case has been registered. The body has been sent for post mortem. Further action will be taken based on the reports."
