Bhubaneswar: The regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in nine districts of the state in the next 24 hours.
Koraput, Malkangiri, Bargarh, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda and Deogarh districts will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall today under the impact of the monsoon trough line, informed Charan Behera, duty officer of Bhubaneswar Met Centre.
“The rainfall will be triggered by the cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood that extends up to 7.6 km above sea level and now lies over north Odisha and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand,” he added saying that the rainfall will further increase after August 1.
The duty officer further said that while one monsoon trough line over Rajasthan to Digha lies above 2.1 km sea level another trough line between Rajasthan and Odisha is now centred at 3.1 and 7.6 km above sea level.
Speaking about the rainfall in the last 24 hours, Behera said, “Umerkote recorded 107.2 mm of rainfall, while Bhawanipatna witnessed 36.2mm of rainfall. Koraput, Titlagarh and Malkangiri witnessed 35.2 mm, 25.6mm and 17.4 mm rainfall respectively.”
“Likewise Sonepur saw a rainfall of 12.8 mm while Sundergarh recorded rainfall of 10. 0 mm,” he added.
The weatherman has already issued ‘red alert’ for three districts – Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur.
