Keonjhar: Sometimes fate can be very brutal and the saying is rightly proved in the case of Sima Munda, an 11-year-old orphan girl who had to undergo harsh realities of life since her early days.
A native of Munda Sahi in Mahadeijoda panchayat of Keonjhar district, Sima lost her parents early and had been living with her grandfather Raya Munda (80). However, tragedy struck her again when she had to lose her grandfather two years back.
Forced to reel under acute poverty, Sima managed to live by surviving on Rs 5kg a month of PDS rice. However, she was left in distress after the administration stopped providing her rice as the ration card she was possessing was not linked with Aadhaar card.
But just like the light at the end of the tunnel, soon after the plight of the girl was highlighted in a section of media, Women and Child Development (WCD) and Mission Shakti Minister Tukuni Sahu came to her rescue.
The WCD minister asked Keonjhar district administration to look into the matter and take necessary steps to help the kid and soon after her orders, the administration swung into action to help the girl.
“The ration of last 2 months has been supplied to her and steps are being taken to enroll her for Aadhar card and link the Aadhar number to ration card for better service. The Civil Supply Dept is following up. Steps are being taken to ensure proper education and scholarship of the girl” the district administration said in a tweet.
WCD minister Tukuni Sahu also thanked the district administration for helping the girl. “Thanks for the Prompt Action taken Regarding SimaMunda’s Ration Arrangements and Aadhaar Seeding,” the minister tweeted.
