Bhubaneswar: A minor boy drowned while taking bath in the bank of Kuakhai river on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Saturday. According to sources, four boys had gone to take bath in the river near Bankuala under Balianta police limits when the mishap occurred.
One of the boys reportedly slipped deep into the water. Though later he was rescued by the fire services personnel in a critical condition, he was pronounced dead by doctors after being rushed to a nearby hospital.
"When we reached near the river to take bath, an uncle warned us not to go deep into the water. Therefore, we started bathing in low water area. While bathing, three of us moved to another part of the river as we knew swimming," said one of boys.
"He (deceased) also followed us. While returning to the shore, he started slipping into deep water and shouted for help. By the time one of us reached there, he was already drowned," the boy added.
