Nayagarh: Supporters of Jan Mancha Odisha, the outfit of top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda’s wife Mili Panda on Wednesday demanded that cases registered against their leader must be withdrawn.
The agitators who staged demonstration in front of offices of Nayagarh district collector and Superintendent of Police, strongly denied reports of Mili’s nexus with the recently nabbed hardcore Maoists by Ganjam police.
“The protest will intensify if cases against Mili Panda are not withdrawn,” said the agitators after submitting a memorandum to the district collector and SP demanding withdrawal of all cases against Mili.
Earlier on April 4, huge quantities of arms and ammunition, several Maoist literature and Rs 3.99 lakh in cash were seized from two Maoists - K Anita alias Kalari Majhi, head of Sabyasachi Panda’s Odisha Maovadi Party (OMP)’s women wing, and Bikram Mallick, an overground worker of OMP.
Police said, the rebels were nabbed from Talapatma jungle under Badagada police station of Ganjam district by the special police force.
Based on the interrogation of the Maoists that she was providing these items to Sabyasachi through four other persons from Nayagarh area, police registered a case against Mili.
Besides IPC, she was charged under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (prevention) Act, Arms Act, Explosives Act and Harmful Publication Act, according to police.
Meanwhile rebutting allegations of any Maoist links Mili said, "As the government feels I am a threat to BJD's politics in Nayagarh, they used the police to malign me," she said.
