Bhadrak: For Mamata Palei, a resident of Dohorapatna village under Chandbali block in Bhadrak, life has turned into a living hell due to alleged medical negligence.
As per reports, due to financial constraints and having given birth to two children already, Mamata decided to go for a sterilization surgery with her husband’s consent, and was admitted to Chandbali Community Health Centre (CHC).
But as per the allegations levelled by Mamata and her family members, a doctor named Pradyumna Sahu cut her alimentary canal during the operation.
A fully healthy and hearty few months ago, Mamata is almost paralysed now as she is completely dependent on her other family members to even sit upright because of the unbearable pain owing to the botched surgery.
The situation has become so worse that she is unable to eat simple meals due to excruciating ache in her stomach for last two months.
Narrating her ordeal, she said, “After I was returned from Cuttack govt hospital, I was admitted to another hospital where doctors said that my alimentary canal is damaged. They kept me inside ICU and conducted a surgery. I am unaware about my present health condition.”
So far Mamata’s husband has spent more than Rs 5 lakh towards her treatment, but there has been hardly any improvement in her health.
After the matter came to the fore, some villagers even staged protest before the CHC but their demands fell into deaf ears. On the other hand, while the doctor Pradyumna Sahu who performed the surgery on Mamata said that there was no proof that the surgical mistake happened because of him, Bhadrak ADMO has said that an investigation is underway and the victim will be compensated.
“Apart from me there was another person who was present during the surgery. How can they say that I am responsible for the mistake? questioned Sahu.
Bhadrak ADMO Dr Subashish Maharana said, “Some complications had emerged during her surgery. The allegations are under process of inquiry. Government will pay the compensation amount to her.”
While there has been no assurance from the State Health department on whether the person/s responsible for the negligence will be brought to book, Mamata and her family still await for recovery.
