Man killed, grandson injured in cracker explosion in Cuttack

Cuttack: An elderly man was killed while his grandson was critically injured in a cracker explosion inside their house at Boila village under Kishorenagar police limits of Cuttack today.

According to sources, the explosion took place while Debendra Samal (55) was making crackers and his 7-year-old grandson Sambit Samal was playing nearby.  Soon, the duo was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in critical condition and Debendra succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.

"We had brought crackers for Diwali. Sambit took the cracker and was lighting it with a candle when the explosion occurred," said Ranjan Samal, son of the deceased.

Sources, however informed that Debendra was into cracker making.
