Balasore: The Balasore police Monday arrested one Sridhar Barik for brutally assaulting his mother over some family dispute at Baitapada village under Basta police limits of the district. The incident came to the fore after video of the entire act went viral on social media.
“Since I scolded my grand daughter-in-law over some trivial issue, my son got furious and started hitting me,” the elderly woman said.
Soon after the video surfaced on social media on June 8, the district Collector directed Basta block Social Welfare Officer Murlidhar Sahu to investigate the matter. Following the probe, the Basta police arrested Barik and is interrogating him.
"The Collector had directed me to conduct an inquiry into the incident. During questioning, the woman admitted that her son used to physically assault her frequently." said Sahu.
A few days back, a 75-year-old woman was dragged on the road and assaulted by her daughter-in-law at Talapali village under Gaisilat block in Bargarh district over family feud. Police later arrested the accused after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
