Bhadrak: Locals today gheraoed the Basudevpur municipality office alleging irregularities in preparation of ration card beneficiary list. The protestors alleged that undue favours have been shown to ruling party supporters and ineligible beneficiaries have been included in the list.
"Though we have ration cards, we are not getting subsidized rice as some politicians are removing our names from the list. We neither have home nor land and still we are being deprived of the benefits while people who are not eligible for this scheme but owe allegiance to the ruling political party are included in the list," said Bayani Mahalik, a protesting local.
According to the sources, the actual beneficiaries have not been included in the ration card list and despite several complaints no action has been taken forcing the locals to launch protests.
"All the procedures were followed properly while preparing the beneficiary list, but after the 'Draft Priority List' was published, issues surfaced. We have contacted the district administration and the discrepancies will be corrected soon," said executive officer of Basudevpur Municipality, Samarendra Grahacharya.
Later, locals called off their stir after discussions with concerned officials, informed sources.
