Bhubaneswar: After a brief dry period for the coming two days, Odisha will be witnessing another spell of heavy rainfall on August 22 and 23, courtesy the likely formation of a low pressure area in the south Bay of Bengal (BoB).
A study of the weather models of IMD, Skymet and INCOIS shows development of a Low Level Circulation (LLC) over south BoB, near the Odisha coast, around August 21-22.
The features of the evolving system as of now doesn't suggest the 'Low' developing into a depression. But it will bring fairly widespread rainfall in Odisha, as per the latest IMD forecast. It has also warned the fishermen to not venture into the sea on the aforesaid days.
As per the forecast by weather agencies, under its influence, districts in coastal, north and south interior Odisha will be witnessing widespread rainfall on August 22 & 23. Authorities need to remain alert as many rivers in coastal districts are already in spate post the release of flood waters from Hirakud.
Meanwhile, with the current LLC moving over to Jharkhand and adjoining areas of Bihar, Odisha is not going to witness any significant rainfall for the coming two days - August 20 and 21. However, the fair amount of rain the State received on August 18 had pruned the deficit to mere 1 per cent. As per IMD's rainfall data, Odisha had received 29 mm rainfall yesterday, which is 152 per cent in excess of the normal average rainfall observed over the years.
Moreover, the number of districts receiving deficient rainfall in the State has come down to five from seven a week ago. Balasore with deficient rainfall of 30 per cent topped the deficit districts followed by Deogarh with 29 per cent less than normal rainfall. Keonjhar and Gajapati followed with 24 per cent less rainfall.
