Lawyers united, works hit in ten districts

Bhubaneswar: Judicial activities in ten districts of the state came to a grinding halt today as lawyers joined hands supporting the Sambalpur Bar Association’s demand for action against the district collector Mrinalini Darswal for her alleged highhandedness.

Lawyers in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack stayed away from all judicial activities while supporting their Sambalpur fraternity High Court lawyers did not join work for the third straight day.

While the general body meeting of High Court Bar Association decided to stay away from work also on Tuesday, the next plan of action will be taken in the meeting scheduled for tomorrow.

In Sambalpur, lawyers staged a dharna in front of the office of inspector general of police, northern range demanding Darswal’s dismissal, arrest and judicial inquiry into the matter. The district administration has made adequate security arrangements to tackle law and order situation in the city.

The central executive committee of western Odisha lawyers’ association has threatened for an all Odisha bandh on May 8 if their demands were not met. A fact finding team constituting presidents of High Court Bar Association and All Odisha Lawyers’ Association and members of Bar Council have left for Sambalpur for a peaceful solution of the matter.
