Cuttack: A day after Orissa High Court Bar Association announced that it will continue the cease-work agitation, BJD legal front today announced that it will withdraw from the agitation keeping in view the larger interests of the people.
Informing about the development, convener of BJD's legal front Milan Kanungo stated that they have urged the members of the front to attend court proceedings either from October 29 or October 30.
It is pertinent to mention here that the High Court Bar Association on Friday had announced to continue their cease work agitation till October 30.
BJD's legal front has cited that its decision to withdraw support from the ongoing cease work was taken after the High Court Bar Association announced to burn the effigy of CM Naveen Patnaik in front of all bar associations across Odisha on October 31.
“Since day one, BJD legal front has been supporting the cease work agitation and will continue to fight for lawyers. The resolution passed by the bar association to burn effigy of CM was totally unjustified and as it was politically motivated. We have decided to join the court proceedings,” said advisor of BJD's legal front, Asim Amitabh Das.
Das further informed that already seven cases have been registered in connection with the assault on a lawyer, which triggered the protests, and the matter is pending before the court.
“We support the strike but condemn the resolution. We will urge BJD legal front members and other advocates to resume court proceedings,” Das added.
Meanwhile, the vice-president of Orissa High Court Bar Association, Bansidhar Satpathy has also resigned from his post.
