Puri: Laxmipriya Mishra's journey from being a lecturer in a foreign country to begging on the streets of Puri left many moved. When her story broke out, it stirred immediate responses that are very likely going to light up her world in more ways than one.
After being rescued, Laxmipriya has undergone a cataract operation. Doctors have successfully conducted the eye surgery and believe that she can get back her vision soon.
Laxmipriya was earlier rescued by the members Lions Club (Service Organisation) and admitted to a hospital. “After we admitted her to a hospital, doctors advised Phaco operation as it is more effective. We are praying for her speedy recovery,” said Anil Kumar Das, president of Lions Club in Puri.
Laxmipriya wishes to visit Puri Srimandir for the darshan of Lord Jagannath and also help students in their studies after she fully recovers, said Das.
Her fluent English and deep knowledge in mathematics and science had earlier surprised all. She reportedly used to teach physics, chemistry and mathematics and was engaged as a teacher in Puri, Gujarat and even in Ethiopia.
As per reports, she lost her mental balance after her adopted son went missing. “Family for me meant only my son, but he was kidnapped seven years back. I don’t know if my villagers killed him or he is still alive,” she had said.
Meanwhile, Laxmipriya is likely to be shifted to an elderly home after she fully recovers. Members of the Lions Club are reportedly in discussion with 'Hope Is Life' old age home to rehabilitate her.
Similarly, one Pramila Pradhan of Purusottampur in Ganjam district, who worked once an assistant at an anganwadi centre, was also, found begging on the Grand Road in the pilgrim city.
“I had fractured my legs while visiting Taratarini shrine. As I could not continue my work, I moved here to sustain myself by begging,” Pramila had said.
