Jeypore: The fourth phase recording of statements from witnesses before the Jeypore District and Session judge Bidyut Kumar Mishra in connection with the Kunduli gang rape and suicide case concluded today.
Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Pottangi police station Deb Kumar Gamang, doctor Prince Parida and member of NGO Life Foundation Sanjukta Naidu deposed before the inquiry commission and recorded their statements.
A total of 16 witnesses were served notices to record their statements. But only nine persons have deposed so far during hearing before the commission.
Next hearing has been scheduled on July 8. The doctor who carried post mortem of the victim, a nurse and a Crime Branch official have been served notices to appear in the next hearing, informed government counsel Prabhakar Patnaik.
The minor girl victim, on October 10, 2017, had alleged that four “persons in uniform” gang raped her. Following public outcry, the case was first investigated by the police and later handed over to the Crime Branch. The girl had hanged herself to death at her house on January 22.
Later on February 7, the Chief Minister had ordered a judicial probe into the incident. Initially the Commission was asked to submit its report within three months. However, after its tenure expired on March 25, 2018, the Home Department on March 26, 2018, extended the Commission’s tenure by another three months.
