Bhubaneswar: It is now testing time for people from Odisha who are now stranded in several flood-hit areas in Kerala. Though relief and rescue operations have been intensified, several Odias are yet to be rescued.
According to reports, several people from Nayagarh district are stranded in Kerala and their families back home are having sleepless nights as they are unable to contact their loved ones.
"It is one and half years that my son has not returned home. We are now worried as we have not been able to contact him. We urge the government to take measures for rescuing people from Odisha," said Malika, mother of Kailash Moharana who is stranded in Kerala.
The family of Santosh Malick of Bahada village too is now glued to television set for information about the Kerala flood situation.
While narrating his ordeal from Kerala to OTV, Pranab Ray stated several people from Odisha are now standed and due to poor mobile networks they have not been able to contact their families back home.
"The situation is alarming as all possible means of communication is completely snapped. Though we have been provided with some food packets, it is not sufficient," said Ray.
The 27-member National Disaster Response Force (NDRF ) team from Cuttack and Balasore rescued nearly 149 people from Malapuram district.
Meanwhile, the State government today wrote to the Kerala government and requested to make necessary arrangements for providing food, drinking water and other necessities to the trapped Odia people.
