Bhubaneswar: Intensifying its protest demanding justice for the five-year-old Nayagarh girl Pari, who was abducted and later murdered, Odisha unit of Bharatiya Janata Patry (BJP) will launch its five-day long 'padyatra' from the capital city today.
As per schedule, the padyatra will begin from Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar. The party leaders and activists will reach Jadupur, the native village of the five-year-old girl, via Janla, Sarua, Pichukuli and Itamati. On the concluding day of the procession, a public meeting will be organised in Jadupur.
National president of BJP Mahila Morcha, Vanathi Srinivasan who reached Bhubaneswar yesterday will also participate in the protest march.
“The padayatra on December 20 from Bhubaneswar to Jadupur will begin from Lingaraj temple at 9 am. We will take out procession about 20 km each day and complete the 98 km padyatra in five days,” informed State party spokesperson Jatin Mohanty on Saturday.
Several central leaders of the party will also take part in the rally which will continue till December 24, informed Mohanty.
On other hand, Vanathi Srinivasan after her arrival in the city yesterday criticised the BJD-led Odisha government for allegedly trying to suppress the ‘Pari’ murder case by ordering an SIT investigation instead of engaging CBI to probe the case.
"The State unit of the party is organising a ‘Padayatra’, covering the entire State to seek justice for 'Pari'. The Odisha BJP has been repeatedly demanding CBI probe into the case but the State government is trying to cover up the case by giving the investigation to the SIT. We demand the resignation of State Minister Arun Sahoo," demanded Vanathi Srinivasan.
Later in the day on Saturday, Srinivasan went to Puri and offered prayers to Lord Patitapabana from near Singhadwara of Lord Jagannath Temple.
