Bhubaneswar: After contributing to a series of successful repatriations of Odisha youths stranded on foreign shores, the former MP Baijayant Jay Panda has once again assured another Kendrapara family that he will do the needful to bring back their son presently stranded in Oman.
Panda met the family members of Abdul, a resident of Padampur area of Kendrapara and assured them that he will speak to the Foreign Ministry to bring Abdul back to Odisha.
Abdul had gone to the Arab country eight months back to work for a construction company but after a few months the company stopped paying him wages and allegedly tortured him physically, his family members said. They have also claimed that the company officials didn't sanction leave to Abdul when his mother was sick.
"My mother is unwell so we had mailed the company asking them to leave Abdul but the company asked us to deposit 400 rial and also present three witnesses. We urge the government to bring him back," Abdul’s brother Mahmood Khan said.
With no option left, Abdul's family members informed the former Kendrapara MP about the incident.
"The main problem is there is no employment in Odisha so despite having talent, lakhs of our brothers and sisters are migrating to other states and foreign countries. It is my duty to bring back the ones who are stranded and I will do whatever I can," Panda said.
Earlier on October 1, the former Kendrapara MP had written to Indian Ambassador to UAE, Navdeep Singh Suri seeking intervention to repatriate Khurda youth Santosh Swain, who is allegedly being harassed by his employer in Abu Dhabi.
