Kendrapara: In a joint operation, Jagstsinghpur and Kendrapara police busted an inter-district gang of dacoits and arrested five persons.

The gang had committed dacoity on May 9 in the house of Bhanu Mohanty, a resident of Chandol of Kendrapara district. The gang members had barged into the house and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs 6 lakh. The stolen ornaments were of estimated weight of 250 gram, a police official said.

The accused were identified as Ramesh Sahu, Babuna Ray, Raja Nayak and Lipun Sahu. While Ramesh was native of Kendrapara, three of his accomplices were from neighbouring Jagatsinghpur district.

The criminals had later disposed of the stolen gold ornaments to a jeweller, Kedarnath Sathua from Nishintakoli area of Cuttack district. About 60 grams of stolen gold ornaments were recovered from the accused shop owner, the official said here.

The gang members, who were arrested on Tuesday, are suspected to have committed a series of robberies and dacoity mainly in Kendrapara, Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur districts, police added.
