Bhubaneswar: As Odisha slowly moves towards the peak winter, cold wave conditions have intensified too with the mercury plummeting to below 10 degrees Celsius in the interior regions of the State. Light frost is expected at some areas of Phulbani district in next few days where night temperature has seen a significant drop over the last few days.
A senior official of the IMD Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said, "Lack of dominance of a significant synoptic system indicates that weather will mostly remain dry during the next five days. However, with upper winds flowing from Northern and North-West side into Odisha, there are chances of cold wave in several parts of the State."
A Yellow Warning has been issued for several districts in Odisha for December 25 and December 26, 2020, valid up to 8:30 AM. As per the MeT forecast, cold wave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Bargarh, Nuapada, Kandhamal.
Note: Night temperatures will not see any further declining trend in the next 2-3 days. There is no warning issued in any district in the next two days post-December 26.
The forecast, however, suggests night temperature during the period will be below normal in the coastal belts.
A Yellow Warning was issued for 11 districts of Odisha on December 24 - which include Mayurbhanj, Angul, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sundergarh, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Koraput, Nuapada, Nabarangpur.
