Hours after escaping, accused gets re-arrested

Nayagarh: Police on Thursday managed to arrest an accused hours after his escape from their custody.

Reports said police had arrested Surath Behera of Jharadapali village under Bolagarh police station limits in Khurda district in connection with a bike accident at Khandapada on Wednesday. As the accused was injured in the accident, police had admitted him to the Nayagarh district headquarters hospital for treatment with two constables to keep a watch on him.

The next morning, Surath had gone to the hospital toilet to relieve himself. When he did not turn up for quite some time, one of the constables went into the toilet and found that he had escaped through the toilet window.

The two constables, during their frantic search, spotted him and chased him up to the Ghaduala river bank where they caught him.

He was later brought to Nayagarh Town Police Station for interrogation.
