Home guard dies in road accident; irate locals block road

Soro: Angry over the death of a person in a road accident near Khantapara Police outpost in Soro, locals here staged a road blockade and locked up the police outpost demanding compensation for the victims.

Tension surfaced after a home guard was killed and a constable was seriously injured as a truck rammed into a police van in front of the Khantapada outpost in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The incident occurred in front of the outpost when a stone-laden truck going towards Balasore from Soro hit the stationary police van killing one person on the spot. According to sources, the injured constable has been shifted to a Cuttack hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Goutam Nayak, while the injured constable has been identified as Sudarshan Parida.
