Bhubaneswar: While continuing its efforts to establish the identity of the woman whose headless body was recovered on the outskirts of the city last Thursday, the Commissionerate Police has decided to store the DNA fingerprint of the deceased which can be used to establish link with any of her relative/claimant if they come forward in near future.
Top sources in the commissionerate police told OTV that the team which is investigating the case has decided to file an application in the court seeking permission for the same.
What is DNA fingerprint: Forensic genetic fingerprinting can be defined as the comparison of the DNA in a person's nucleated cells with that identified in biological matter found at the scene of a crime or with the DNA of another person for the purpose of identification or exclusion
Police had earlier announced cash reward of Rs 50,000 for anyone helping to identify the woman.
The investigating officials have also released posters detailing the physical attributes and appealed to citizens to call on the helpline numbers 8280338323 and 8280338296 for sharing any information on the deceased. Police have promised that the identity of the person who gives info on the woman will be kept confident.
The posters having the message and a photo of the woman which has a tatto of Trishul on the right hand have been put up in different places in the city.
The post-mortem report of the woman had earlier revealed that she was strangulated before beheading. However, police have not confirmed it yet.
Police had recovered the body of the middle-aged woman besides Bharatpur-Chandaka Road near Dasapur village on the outskirts of State Capital on February 4.
Even though four days have passed, police could not make any headway in the case to establish her identity.
The Commissionerate Police had alerted police stations in the neighbouring districts, asking them to check for missing reports of any middle-aged woman.
Scientific team, sniffer dogs had also been pressed into services during initial phase of investigation.
