Bhubaneswar: The Odisha High Court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to former minister Raghunath Mohanty’s daughter Rupashree and son-in-law Suvendu Madhual in connection with the dowry torture allegations made by Mohanty’s daughter-in-law Barsha Sony Chaudhury.

Notably both Rupashree and her husband were at large since the FIR was lodged by Barsha on March 14 at Balasore Town police station.

Barsha in her FIR had alleged that she was subjected to physical assault and mental torture for dowry by five members of Raghunath’s family including Rupashree and Suvendu.

Reacting on today’s development Basha said, “The Madhual couple is undoubtedly responsible for my present condition. Now that both have been granted bail by the court, I have complete faith in God.”

Barsha, a B Tech student who had earlier expressed faith in Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that she was gradually losing it.

“Now I feel that law is not taking its own course, as always told by the CM. But I have faith in the law of the land,” added Barsha.

Though Raghunath quit as Urban Development minister on March 15 on moral grounds, officials of Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) nabbed the Mohanty couple from Shalimar area of Kolkata on Mach 30.

The Mohanty couple was arrested on the basis of Barsha’s FIR who alleged dowry torture by her in-laws.

Three days after their arrest the couple was granted bail by a Balasore court on April 2. Mohanty's son Rajashree was also arrested on similar charges on March 18 from Choudwar later released on bail few days back.
