Bhubaneswar: The Opposition Congress created pandemonium on the fourth day of Odisha Assembly today over the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old girl in Hathras of Uttar Pradesh forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House twice.
Soon after the House met to transact business for the day, members of Opposition created ruckus and started sloganeering against PM Narendra Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath on the horrific Hathras gangrape and demanded their resignations.
They also rushed to the well of the House protesting the UP police excess on Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi while the two Congress leaders were on their way to meet the family members of Hathras victim. Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro had to adjourn the proceedings for 15 minutes till 11:30 AM and later when the House sat again, the Congress legislators restaged their protest near the Speaker’s podium forcing the Speaker to adjourn the Assembly till 3 PM.
“We will not bear the police excess on Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in Hathras. BJP government has killed democracy and acting like authoritarian. Unless Modi reign ends and UP CM resigns, we will continue our agitation,” threatened Congress MLA Tara Bahinipati.
“Police in UP is acting as a puppet in the hands of the concerned State government. The girl was brutally killed and now the victim’s family is being harassed. I strongly condemn the incident. If the girl does not get justice at the earliest, all the dalit women of Odisha will hit the streets and we will ensure our voice even resounds in Delhi,” said BJD MLA Snehangini Chhuria.
Speaking to OTV, BJP leader Bishnu Charan Sethi stated, “Rahul Gandhi was not manhandled, a video doing round in social media shows he intentionally fell on the ground."
