Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch of state Police today arrested six persons including a government officer on the charge of fradulently selling government land to private persons, official sources said.

The arrested persons included an Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) rank officer Dilip Kumar Patnaik, two revenue inspectors, one record keeper and two beneficiaries, said B K Sharma, Inspector General of Police, crime branch. Patnaik denied the charge.

"The officials had allegedly sold about 70 acres of government land under Pipili tehsil area in Puri district to private persons by using fradulent means," Sharma said adding that the economic offence wing of the Crime Branch had been probing the land case.

Earlier the revenue and disaster management department had handed over the case to the Crime Branch for investigation after finding that some of the government officials were involved in the fraud.
