Baripada: Despite Odisha government announcing cancellation of annual Matric board examinations and shutting down classroom teaching due to the prevailing second wave of Covid pandemic situation, some students were seen sitting in the examination at a school in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday.
According to reports, the headmaster of Sri Chaitanyadev government high school at Paika Sahi under Rasgovindpur block in the district called all the standard 10 students to the class and conducted some practice tests, which were supposed to be completed in January.
Students appeared the test for different papers including mathematics, science, English, reports said.
According to sources, the District Education Officer (DEO) had recently issued a notification to the headmaster of all high schools in the district to submit detailed reports of the practice tests of the class-10 students by Monday.
All the schools had already finished the practice tests in January-February while the Sri Chaitanyadev School had reportedly not completed the task. The district authorities’ order is said to have forced the headmaster to conduct the tests in a hasty manner.
Meanwhile, the headmaster too has admitted his mistake even as the district authorities has declined to comment on the matter.
Odisha government had on Wednesday announced cancellation of the annual Class 10 board exam due to rising covid-19 cases in the State. The results will be published based on an objective criterion to be developed by the Board of Secondary Education.
